Serbian tennis player Dejana Radanovic has ignited a controversy with disparaging remarks against India, criticizing aspects such as food, traffic, and hygiene during her three-week stay in the country after participating in ITF tournaments. In a series of Instagram stories, the World No.245 player expressed her dissatisfaction, citing issues like unhygienic conditions, worms in the food, yellow pillows, and dirty bed linen in the hotel. Radanovic even hinted at not returning to India, stating her discontent with various aspects of her experience.
"I didn’t like India – the country. I didn’t like the food, traffic, hygiene (worms in the food, yellow pillows and dirty bed linen in the hotel, not knowing how to use roundabout etc.)" the World No.245 tennis player wrote on Instagram. In another Instagram story in Munich, Germany, Dejana Radanovic wrote, "Hello civilization. Only those who have experienced something like India for 3 weeks can understand the feeling."
Radanovic defended her remarks by drawing comparisons to her own country, Serbia, suggesting that disliking similar aspects there would not be considered racist. The controversy raises questions about cultural perceptions and the need for open discussions on differing experiences.
